Johnson Chosen to Play in State All-Star Softball Game

 

Cumberland senior Brea Johnson, will play for the Division 3 Red Team in the State All-Star Softball Classic in Wisconsin Dells on June 15 and 16.The games will be played at the Woodside Sports Complex.

 

Johnson is one of almost 200 senior girls from the State, who will be one of 16 teams participating in the games. The only Northwest Wisconsin player joining Johnson on Red 3 is Jessica Geske of Fall Creek. Two Clayton girls and a Grantsburg girl are on other team rosters.

 

Players are selected for their accomplishments throughout their high school careers. Johnson had seven home runs last spring and was a HON First Team outfield pick.

Band Books are Here!!

The Cumberland Band program is selling the coupon books again this year.  These coupon books offer thousands of dollars in savings, including $20 in FREE GAS!  All coupons in the 2015 campaign are good through August of 2016, so there will be plenty of time to get your money's worth from these coupons.  This annual fundraiser is used to benefit both the band program and the student field trip to Florida in 2017.  If you are interested in purchasing a Cumberland Band coupon book for just $10, talk to one of the many students involved in the Cumberland band program or contact Dan Hopkins at dhopk@csdmail.com or Renee Rademaker at rrade@csdmail.com.  Get yours today...campaign ends on May 28!!

Clean-Up Batter

Cumberland senior Morgan Weaver had a huge day at the plate on Saturday, April 18 against Boyceville, going five for seven in the double dip and having two grandslam homeruns in the nightcap.  She drove in 10 of Cumberland’s 16 runs. She had 11 RBI’s on the day. 

Youth Summit 2015

The Island City Academy traveled to UW-Stevens Point on April 15 to compete in the 2015 Youth Summit.  All projects must demonstrate a relationship to the sustainability of our world.  Projects can include environmental sustainability, economic sustainability and/or cultural sustainability.  

Winning 6 of the 10 awards were:

RJ Gunderson: Project Recognition
Deric Hensel: Engineering and Design Sustainability
Kela Vicich: Best Presentation
Rylee Riewestahl: Most Innovative
Ania Hyat: Economics Sustainability

The Cumberland HS Music Department participated in the Red Cedar Music District Solo and Ensemble Festival at Rice Lake HS on Saturday, April 11th.

Students in Class A earning a starred first rating and advancing to the state festival in May are: Gavin Fountaine, classical guitar solo and alto saxophone solo; Micah Weltzin, drum set solo, piano solo, and concert snare drum duet; Lucas West, marimba solo, Skyler Fox and Aidan Warner parade snare drum duet; Bryce Hopkins, Jack Ault and Nic Stevens parade snare drum trio.

In Class A earning a first rating: Kallai Hokanson, violin solo, jazz violin solo and alto saxophone solo; Lucas West, violin solo; Lea Sebens, alto solo; Nikki Fox, flute solo and soprano solo; Taylor Olsen and Gavin Fountaine, alto saxophone duet.  In Class A earning a second rating: Nikki Skrypek flute solo and soprano solo; Ethan Snowbank parade drum solo.

In Class B earning a first rating: Elaina Bruno soprano solo, Sarina Anderson flute solo, Taylor Olsen alto solo, Carl Grenquist and Tenley Hofer clarinet duet, and the flute choir of Nikki Skrypek, Tyerra Naylor, Allison Anderson, Lea Sebens and Kallai Hokanson.

In Class C earning a first rating: Kela Vicich cello solo, Monica Stager soprano solo.  Earning a second rating: Kela Vicich xylophone solo.
