Boys Basketball Opens Drills; Opener Set for December 4 in Spooner
The Cumberland Boy’s Basketball Team began practice on Monday for the 2025 season. Coming off a Conference Championship and a 21-6 record, the Beavers had plenty of new faces joining first year Head-Coach Ryan Zemke for opening drills. Zemke, an assistant for multiple years in the program, will take over for Brian Dutton, who retired after last season.
Gone are All-State and Conference player of the year Gavin Gores and Honorable Mention guard Chayden Berghammer among others. The key returner to the squad is Senior Troy Majewski, who scored 12 points and added six assists in last year’s season ending Sectional loss to La Crosse Aquinas. Majewski was 5th in the HON in assists last year with 4.4 per contest and a solid outside shooter.
“We will have approximately 25 kids out for the team and return six players who had some varsity experience. Troy was big for us last year and will be a key to our success this year. The Conference looks to be wide open with Northwestern, Hayward, Barron and Cameron among the favorites,” added Zemke.
The team open up against Conference foe Spooner in Spooner on December 4.
