Third Graders

Third graders recently read the book "Beetles, Lightly Toasted" by Phyllis Reynolds Naylor, the story of a fifth grader who enters a conservation-themed writing contest with a very unusual idea, using beetles, grubs, and worms as food substitutes!
After finishing the novel, students put their creativity to work by developing their own “bug-inspired” recipes and sharing snacks featuring flies, cockroaches, ants, grubs, worms, bear meat, and butterflies.
Don’t worry, no bugs were harmed in the making of these recipes! Students cleverly used chocolate chips, gummy worms, pickles, granola, and salami sticks to bring their imaginative creations to life. What a fun and creative way to connect literature and hands-on learning!
