Whole School Support
Students work with their homeroom teachers in building their schedules based on their academic and career plans. After students build their schedule, students take their schedule home to discuss with their parents/guardians and have them sign off on their schedule and promote strong family engagement. Students can also schedule time with the guidance office as needed to help with the process. Students complete the different Xello lessons and activities throughout the school year during homeroom and in a variety of classes to ensure career readiness exposure.
Career Readiness Practices:
- Students participate in regular career conversations to discuss their career interests, academic goals, and postsecondary plans with an adult.
- Teachers in all subject areas help students in their classes understand how the content they are learning connects with various careers and career readiness skills.
PREPARING FOR THE FUTURE
The ACP program at Cumberland School District ensures every student is prepared for life after high school no matter what path they plan to take. This includes:
- Career and technical education provided in the school district – Student Handbook
- Courses that provide advance placement and/or transcripted credit at Northwood Technical College: Transcripted Courses: Microsoft Word A, Personal Finance
Dual Credit Courses: Speech, English Composition, Medical Terminology
Articulated Courses: Intro to Business and Accounting, Microsoft Excel A, Microsoft PowerPoint A
- Early College Credit Program and Start College: Currently have 26 students participating in these programs
- To graduate from CHS you meet the college entrance requirements for credit. Students also attend college fairs and meet with college reps who come to our school
- Youth apprenticeship, Work Based Learning
- Local businesses partner with the school to provide mock interview experiences for students
- Students complete a job shadow experience

Labor market information (LMI) helps our school districts develop cutting-edge Career and Technical Education programs by uncovering the skills students will need in the future. In addition, LMI can help students understand which jobs are most likely to be available and well-compensated.

PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT FOR STAFF
The Cumberland School District is committed to supporting our entire staff to become engaged in the career readiness process. We provide the following professional development to staff:
Attend CESA 11 Workshops, SLATE Conference, and Networking with Dr. Katie Feuerhelm with opportunities available. Additional professional learning opportunities as they become available.

INDIVIDUALIZED ACP SUPPORT
- Our district has a process to identify and provide modifications, accommodations, or enhanced support for career readiness activities to maximize the participation of English Learners, students with an Individual Education Plan (IEP), or students at risk of not graduating.
- Our district implements specific strategies to communicate with students, families, and caregivers of English Learners, students with an Individual Education Plan (IEP), and/or students at risk of not graduating about career readiness.
- Our district makes an effort to seek out diverse community, industry, and higher education partnerships so that students are more likely to interact with adults who come from many different backgrounds and cultures.
ACCESS FOR ALL STUDENTS
If a pupil is a child with a disability, the pupil's academic and career plan shall be made available to the pupil's individual education program team. The pupil's individualized education program team may, if appropriate, take the pupil's academic and career plan into account when developing the pupil's transition services.
Students work with their special education teacher on scheduling for the upcoming school year aligning it to their future career goals along with having their parents sign off on their schedule to promote family engagement. Students have the opportunity to participate in Youth Apprenticeship and the Hospitality Foundations Program through Northwood Technical College.
